Clinical Research and Critical Care Delivery
Organizational research in critical care has expanded over
the last five to ten years, with a focus on care-delivery processes
that has advanced our understanding of this complex and challenging
environment. Research has examined medical errors, physician staffing,
nurse-to-patient ratios, unit workflow, staff satisfaction, and multidisciplinary
clinical integration.
The value of intensivists for delivering care to critically ill
patients has been well established. VISICU has developed technology
and a centralized care model that enables critical care nurses and
nurse practitioners to support and leverage intensivists. Combined
with a Six
Sigma® approach for utilizing technology to identify and
decrease medical errors, the eICU® Program is bringing industry
level standards to health care.
