Frank T. Sample joined VISICU in September 2001 as president and chief executive officer and as chairman of the company's board of directors. Mr. Sample has had a distinguished leadership career in both the healthcare informatics and technology sectors. Prior to joining VISICU, Mr. Sample served as President and CEO of VitalCom (Nasdaq:VCOM), a leader in state-of-the-art wireless patient monitoring technology, from 1997-2001 and then vice chairman of Data Critical (Nasdaq:DCCA) following its successful merger in 2001. Before joining VitalCom, Mr. Sample served as president and chief executive officer of Phamis, Inc., a provider of patient-focused electronic medical records, and as executive vice president of IDX Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: IDXC) following its merger with Phamis. Prior to joining Phamis, he held executive management positions at TRW, Inc., Information Systems & Services Division, and the Healthcare Services Group of Control Data Corporation. Mr. Sample holds a BA degree in Business Administration from Cleveland State University.

Dr. Rosenfeld has practiced critical care for more than fifteen years and is currently an adjunct associate professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine, medicine— and surgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Prior to founding VISICU, Dr. Rosenfeld was medical director of two critical care units at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He received the Shannon Award and grants from the National Institutes of Health for his research on stress-induced changes in blood coagulation— and he was principal investigator on numerous ICU clinical research trials. He has published over fifty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and numerous scientific abstracts. He developed the first application of a smart monitoring system that provides hospital-wide management of patients with myocardial ischemia and co-developed a comprehensive personnel and equipment triage system for evacuating critically ill soldiers for the U. S. Air Force.

Dr. Rosenfeld graduated magna cum laude, special honors, biology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1975. He graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in 1980 and then trained in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, anesthesiology, and critical care. He was selected chief resident while at Johns Hopkins during his anesthesiology and critical care fellowship. He has been inducted as a fellow in both the College of Critical Care Medicine and the College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Breslow is an intensivist who has practiced critical care medicine for twenty years. Prior to founding VISICU, Dr. Breslow was associate professor of anesthesia, internal medicine, and surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During his time at Hopkins, Dr. Breslow directed the surgical intensive care unit and ran the fellowship training program in surgical critical care. He had a productive research career, gaining recognition for his work on trauma-related complications. He also was a leader in the area of perioperative medicine, publishing a textbook and starting the preeminent postgraduate course in the field. He has been an invited lecturer at national and international meetings and participated in critical care medicine programs worldwide. Dr. Breslow has served on the scientific advisory Boards of the Association of University Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, and is currently on the board of directors of the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists. He has been an associate editor of the journals Critical Care Medicine and Anesthesiology.

Dr. Breslow was a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University in 1972, with a BA degree in biochemistry. He graduated in 1976 from the Tufts University School of Medicine and went on to internship, residency— and a chief residency position in Internal Medicine at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Following this, he completed a residency in Anesthesiology and a Fellowship Program in Critical Care Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Mr. Estrada's 19-year career combines strong financial expertise with broad healthcare business experience gained through various senior executive level finance, operations and business development positions. Prior to joining VISICU in September 2005, Mr. Estrada was Vice President of Business Development for McKesson Corporation and was responsible for mergers and acquisitions as well as business partnerships for the healthcare information technology division. As Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of EDiX Corporation, he successfully developed and executed a turnaround plan resulting in an acquisition by IDX Systems. He also held the position of Chief Financial Officer of ChannelHealth, a venture-backed spin-off company of IDX Systems that was acquired by AllScripts Healthcare Solutions.

Mr. Estrada holds Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois and became a certified public accountant in 1986.

Ms. Herold’s human resource management career spans more than twenty years in the computer and medical technology industries. She has extensive experience in all aspects of human resources (HR) and has held numerous leadership positions in small, privately held companies as well as large, corporate environments.

Prior to joining VISICU in October 2002, Ms. Herold held the position of Senior HR Director at VitalCom where she was responsible for designing and implementing the HR programs and facilitating the integration of the company’s HR function after the company’s acquisition by Data Critical Corporation and GE Medical Systems. Prior to GE and VitalCom, Ms. Herold was Director of Human Resources at SimpleTech Inc. In this position, Ms. Herold helped to prepare the company’s HR Department for its eventual IPO. This was preceded by a variety of HR generalist and management roles at several Unisys Corporation business units.

Ms. Herold graduated cum laude from Chapman University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.

Mr. Pepper's experience in the high-tech IT and communications service sectors spans more than 20 years and includes product launches in over 200 countries. Considered a global marketing leader in the technology, communication, and software industries, Pepper has held senior-level and executive leadership positions with emerging start-ups, public and established companies.

Before joining VISICU in 2007, Pepper served as Vice President of Marketing at SoftMed Systems, Inc., one of the largest providers of healthcare information software and services in North America.

His past positions also include working as the Director of Global Marketing at VeriSign, Inc., a leading provider of Internet security, payment service and domain name services. In this role, Pepper led new Internet product launches in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas.

Pepper also served as the Vice President of Marketing for DSL.net, a foremost provider of high-speed Internet access for small and medium-sized companies throughout the United States.

Pepper began his executive career in 1990 as Vice President of Corporate Development at Douglas-Michaels Co., a national provider of financial services.

Pepper holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Babson College.

Connie D'Argenio's career spans more than 10 years experience in the sales of healthcare information solutions with Siemens, combined with a strong critical care nursing background. Ms. D'Argenio has held various sales and business development positions within Siemens focusing on care transformation, most recently having served as Division Vice President for Health Services. In these roles, Ms D'Argenio partnered with hospital executives to improve business outcomes for both the Siemens and client organizations. Prior to joining Siemens, Ms. D'Argenio held progressive clinical management positions within hospitals, with strong emphasis on clinical and nurse education. She served on several hospital committees as a member of the nurse executive team. As an ongoing member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Ms. D'Argenio actively participates in healthcare associations focused on healthcare quality and efficiency.

Ms. D'Argenio holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of NY at Albany and a Masters Degree of Science from the Virginia Commonwealth University and Medical College of Virginia.

Mr. Sindler has more than thirty years of financial management experience in various senior level financial positions. His background includes both operations and corporate positions in small, growing companies as well as large organizations. He offers experience in all aspects of financial management with an emphasis on business analysis, public company compliance, IPO processes, mergers and acquisitions, and investment community activities.

He began his accounting career as a staff auditor with one of the Big Five Firms and moved quickly into the corporate environment. His corporate career began in the insurance brokerage business as a corporate tax manager. After tax compliance, he moved into the controller's position, handling monthly reporting, budget preparation and consolidation, merger integration, and business analysis and support. He also led strategic planning activities and business automation projects to integrate business and financial processes.

Prior to joining VISICU, Mr. Sindler led the transition from private to public companies in two smaller companies, including leading the IPO of an Internet marketing company.

Mr. Sindler received his BS degree in Accounting from the University of Baltimore and his CPA designation in 1970 and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Holl has led the development of high technology systems for over 20 years. His career includes an impressive track record with noteworthy technology-driven companies across a wide span of technology sectors. He has received numerous commendations including the Chairman’s Award for excellence in innovation from Harnischfeger Industries. Prior to joining the VISICU team in 2003, Holl held senior technical and management positions at Hyperion Software, IBM Consulting, Harnischfeger Industries, and Notara. Holl also served as a qualified submarine officer in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Holl holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Doerfler has practiced critical care for more than fifteen years and is a clinical associate professor of medicine at New York University School of Medicine. Prior to joining VISICU, Dr. Doerfler was director of critical care medicine for the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at NYU and director of the medical intensive care units at Bellevue Hospital and NYU Medical Center - Tisch Hospital. Prior to joining the faculty of NYU, Dr. Doerfler was an investigator in the department of critical care medicine at the National Institutes of Health, where his work focused on biological mechanisms of septic shock. At NYU he continued this work and was also principal investigator on numerous ICU clinical research trials. Dr. Doerfler also chaired the biomedical ethics committee at Bellevue Hospital for eight years and was involved in multiple expert panels and advisory groups focusing on ethical dilemmas in medicine. He was designated Teacher of the Year by the Department of Medicine at NYU for 1998-1999 and 1999-2000.

Dr. Doerfler graduated magna cum laude in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1982 and received the Heard Senior prize for excellence in internal medicine. He then trained in internal medicine at NYU, in critical care medicine at the NIH and pulmonary medicine at NYU.

Ms. Spurrier has more than 20 years of Information Technology leadership experience. Before joining VISICU in 2000 as Compliance Manager, Ms. Spurrier held a variety of technical and managerial positions at the National Security Agency (NSA) where she focused on software development and internal network operations. Subsequently, Ms. Spurrier launched a successful consulting business in which she was a Technical Consultant for high-tech and government agencies that included the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE), CTGi Inc., MCI, Biospherics, Ernst & Young and the American Chemical Society (ACS). As a consultant, Ms. Spurrier provided expertise to all phases of the software development process from conception to implementation. Areas of technical expertise include Internal Validation and Verification (IV&V), systems analysis, process development, DOD/DOT Security Accreditation requirements, as well as the design and implementation of automated training tools and programs.

Ms. Spurrier holds a Master of Science Degree in Computer Systems Management and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland.
